This collection contains correspondence, subject files, printed materials, research notes, and newspaper clippings. The first part of the collection contains subject files (political), including files on agriculture, correctional institutions, the economy, education, the environment, labor, police, roads and highways, and taxes. The files also provide information concerning Stuart's state reapportionment plan from 1959. There are also several files of correspondence arranged alphabetically. The remainder of the collection includes notes, an article, and correspondence on Iowa court congestion, and a notebook with committee records of voting on various bills.

Attorney, Iowa Senator, and judge. William Corwin Stuart was born in 1920 and graduated from Iowa State College in 1941. In 1942 he received his J.D. degree and was admitted to the Iowa Bar Association. He also served in the U.S. Air Force (1943-1946) and afterwards joined the law practice of his father in Chariton, Iowa. His political career began in 1946, when he was named city attorney for Chariton. In 1953 he was elected to the Iowa State Senate where he served until 1961. ...
